MTG: Barter Draft

I've been looking for a new casual draft format to play with friends, but didn't find any that were interesting, so I made one up.

I call it "Barter Draft" and here's how it plays:

Each player comes to the table with three boosters. To begin a around of drafting each player opens one booster, removes all lands, and all tokens from the pack, then sleeves each of the remaining cards. (Placing cards in sleeves is optional, but may be required while drafting Innistrad as checklist cards can be sleeved with double-sided ones. I find that putting cards in sleeves not only protects them, but also facilitates in the shuffling of said cards.)

The boosters are then shuffled together into a combined card pool, which will be referred to as the Draft Deck. Players roll die for turn order, and take turns drafting from the Draft Deck. At the beginning of each turn the active player draws five cards from the Draft Deck and can do one of the following:

1. Pass the turn and collect a Barter Token for later use, passing all of the cards in hand to the next player. A player cannot choose to Pass the turn if they have collected 4 or more Barter Tokens (Read on for more details). If all Player's Pass then the Draft Deck is shuffled.

2. Spend All Barter Tokens (Max 4) and pick cards from the hand equal to the number of Barter Tokens spent (Max 4) plus one, then return the remaining cards to the top of the Draft Deck. If the Player doesn't have any Barter Tokens, they can pick only one card from the hand, then return the remaining cards to the top of the Draft Deck.

After a player has picked their cards, for each card they can choose to either place it face down in front of them in a stack (Drafted Pool), or face up in front of them in a zone referred to as their Trade Zone. The turn ends and the next player takes their turn. The process continues until all of the cards from the Deck have been dealt. After the Draft Deck is emptied, another pack is opened by each player and shuffled together to form another Draft Deck and the drafting continues. Do note that Players retain Barter Tokens between packs.

At any time not during a player's turn, that player can choose to look through another player's Trade Zone and offer to trade for cards in their Trade Zone, or any number of collected Barter Tokens.

At any time not during a player's turn, that player can choose to move cards from their Trade Zone to their Drafted Pool or visa versa. The owner of a Drafted Pool can look through it any time that it is not their turn.

A player can collect more than 4 Barter Tokens during the course of the draft through Passing and Trading, but if a player has collected 4 or more Barter Tokens they must choose to spend 4 during their turn and collect all of the cards that they had drawn, placing them in either their Trade Zone or their Drafted Pool.
